New Chairman Keith Sacre conducts the AA’s 50th National Amenity Conference

Trustee Update

The 50th Annual AGM was held in the Westminster Theatre and was conducted by Keith Sacre in his first act as new Chairman of the Arboricultural Association.

Over 50 members attended the meeting, as reports from the board of directors, budget and performance for 2015-16, the election of new trustees and questions from the membership were all discussed.

All items on the agenda were approved by those in attendance. The Chairman also requested recognition of outgoing Chair Jago Keene and his effort, energy and commitment over more than 3 years, as well as the fact that the direction and foundation he has left for the current board to build on is no less than exemplary. Keith’s suggestion was met with wide approval and we thank Jago for the sterling work he has carried out for the organisation, which he will continue as he becomes one of our key ambassadors. The legacy of recent Chief Executive Karen Martin was also acknowledged.

The retirements of trustees Jonathan Heuch, Jim Quaife, Jago Keen and Peter Wharton were announced. The board thanked the retiring trustees for the incredible amount of hard work, enthusiasm and energy they have put in on behalf of the members.

Finally results of the Election of new trustees were declared following voting at the start of the AGM.

Mike Sankus was re-elected and Ian Murat was welcomed to the board for 2016-17.

Following the AGM, current chair of the Arborists Working Group Jaime Bray was elected as the new Vice Chairman of the Association. Jaime takes up the position vacated by Keith and will support him throughout his term as Chairman.

Thanks to all those who stood for election and put themselves forward for committees, if you weren’t successful then we encourage you to stand again and remember that we are always keen to hear your ideas and input on all matters.

The Tree Advice Trust Legacy documents

Tree Advice Trust Research Notes made available

The Arboricultural Association is pleased to announce that, following discussions with the trustees of the former Tree Advice Trust, the intellectual property relating to the Arboriculture Research Notes, Information Notes, and Practice Advice Notes is now made freely available on the Association’s website.

The Board of the Association wishes to thank the Trust (and in particular Derek Patch) for the opportunity to share this material, which ensures the ongoing provision of impartial and authoritative information on tree matters.

The information thus made available was believed to be accurate at the time it was produced by the Trust, but neither the Association nor the Trust nor any existing or former board member or officer of either organisation takes any responsibility for its continuing accuracy or for its applicability in any particular situation. The Association will from time to time be reviewing how the material can most appropriately be updated and further disseminated.

The contents of its published research and practice notes were passed on to the Arboricultural Association to maintain their availability to their intended audience and to ensure that the legacy of the Trust’s work will live on.

The Arboricultural Association is thrilled to be able to add this fantastic resource to our library of online content.
