It will soon be time for us to renew our memberships and make resolutions for the New Year, and preparations for 2016 continue here at AA HQ. The last month has seen a full review of the services we provide to our members, contractors and consultants, and as a result we will be making some exciting changes over the next few months which we hope will improve your experience. NEW ‘HELP AND ADVICE’ LEAFLET LAUNCHED

Tree Work – Help and Advice ‘Choosing your Tree Surgeon (Arborist)’ has been published as a guide for members of the public and as a resource for Approved Contractors.

Choosing your Arborist is a simple and effective tool to help potential clients ask the right questions and choose between professional, competent and reliable arborists and those that are not.

Approved Contractors can also use the leaflet to help promote their businesses using the guide and have the option to buy copies of the leaflet to distribute in quantities of 100, 500 or 1500.

INSTAGRAM AUTUMN PHOTO CONTEST

To celebrate the launch of the Arboricultural Association Instagram we’re having a competition to find your best Autumnal tree and arb related photographs.

Fancy yourself as an amateur David Bailey or the Annie Leibowitz of famous trees?

Submit your entries using the hashtag #Arbstagram along with our username (e.g. arboricultural_association) and we will pick our favourite in the first week of 2016. The winner will receive Claus Matthecks ‘Updated Field Guide for Visual Tree Assessment‘. Feel free to submit your autumn videos too!

Instagram is the fastest growing social network and recently surpassed Twitter with 400 million users. We hope to use it as another channel to engage both members and the public and help fulfil our goal of advancing and raising awareness of Arboriculture and Arboricultural best practice.

A 3 day course aimed at experienced and qualified arboriculturists with an in-depth knowledge of plant and arboricultural science.

The course provides specific tree inspection training at an advanced level for competent arboriculturists to enable them to identify defects from ground level, from a climbed inspection or inspection aided by the use of a Mobile Elevated Working Platform (MEWP).

A seminar style event featuring Prof. Lynne Boddy of Cardiff University, supported by PhD STUDENTS Emma Gilmartin and Sarah Johnston, who will illustrate the roles of fungi in death and decay of trees and also their crucial roles in feeding and protecting trees from pathogens. Included will be exciting findings from her own research group.

So far 130 have booked a place for the event which is aimed at anyone with an interest in arboriculture or tree fungi, pests and diseases.
