From the CEO

Karen Martin - CEO

AA HQ is as busy as ever following the Easter break as our preparations for the 2015 ARB Show at Westonbirt pick up steam. With only 2 months to go, it promises to be one of our most memorable shows – and all in a spectacular new location. Over 90% of exhibitor plots have been booked, giving us an even wider than ever variety of equipment and services on show alongside a busy events programme. We hope to see you all there; it really is a stunning venue!

The ARB Show 2015 at Westonbirt – Bigger than ever before!

ARB SHOW 2015
2 MONTHS TO GO!

Exhibitor, sponsor and visitor enquiries are running at an unprecedented rate for this year’s ARB Show sponsored by STIHL. The show will be taking place on Friday 5 June and Saturday 6th at Westonbirt, The National Arboretum in Gloucestershire. Exhibitor plots have sold at an unprecedented rate. There will be plenty of new names alongside the established companies, showcasing the latest climbing gear, equipment and machinery, tools, insurance, training, IT and technology: you won’t be disappointed. With a much larger showground, the event will feature more visitor attractions than ever before, including workshops and hands-on demonstrations, as well as new family attractions like recreational tree climbing, an axe racing arena and more, all within the breath-taking surroundings of our new venue. So remember to save the date in your diary for the biggest pure arb show in the UK.

DART complete Vanuatu operations

DISASTER ARBORIST RESPONSE TEAM DEPLOYED TO VANUATU

DART completed its support operations on 8 April having been humbled by ‘the gratitude, generosity and selflessness of the Vanuatu people’. The Pacific island was hit by Cyclone Pam in March and the storm caused widespread damage. Sponsored by AA Approved Contractors Glendale, volunteers Gary and Andy donated their equipment to local residents at the end of the trip (after giving them an appropriate level of chainsaw safety and maintenance training, of course). Bats British Standard public consultation

BATS BS DRAFT OUT FOR PUBLIC CONSULTATION

The new British Standard relating to the surveying of trees and woodlands for bats (BS8596) is now live as a draft for public consultation (DPC), and will remain so until 31st May.

To review the standard, go to the drafts page of the BSI website and set up an account with a password, then type in a key word to get to the relevant standard (8596 works). Comments for each section must be made on the website in the relevant sections. The link to the drafts page of the BSI website is drafts.bsigroup.com.

Although a considerable proportion of the standard is aimed at ecologists and bat specialists, sections of it relate directly to arboriculturists and as such it will be an important document for the industry.
